WGT634U – OpenWRT – Webcam Server

leave a comment »

I  turned my netgear wgt634u wireless router to a wireless webcam-server.

tutorial for flashing from netgear-webinterface:

http://wiki.openwrt.org/oldwiki/openwrtdocs/hardware/netgear/wgt634u

firmware:

http://downloads.openwrt.org/kamikaze/8.09.2/brcm47xx/

Sometimes i bricked it with a wrong config so we start from scratch:
push reset 5-6x (set ip of your pc 192.168.1.2 – ping -t 192.168.1.1)
when response -> telnet 192.168.1.1 -> firstboot ->  disconnect from power

i configure over web-gui http://192.168.1.1/ my ip etc.
then connect via ssh (note: set admin password before!)

  1. opkg update
  2. opkg install kmod-madwifi
  3. opkg install kmod-usb-core
  4. opkg install kmod-usb2
  5. opkg install usbutils
  6. opkg install kmod-video-core
  7. opkg install kmod-video-spca5xx-le
  8. opkg install spca5xx-view
  9. opkg install kmod-gspca
  10. opkg install mjpg-streamer

-reboot & check /dev/video0

start webcam server @ http://yourip:8080

mjpg_streamer --input "input_gspcav1.so --device /dev/video0" --output "output_http.so -w /webcam_www"

supported webcams (all LE)

Webcam Time Lapse – Full Automate Windows Solution

leave a comment »

what?
script for generating .avi + .flv timelapse from webcam
full automated
windows :)

software
mencoder (extract all files from mencoder-download your images folder*)
webcam software (webcamxp in my example)

webcam software configuration
*configure your webcam software that it outputs .jpg-images to a folder and chose your interval (i use 3mins)

i configured @ webcamxp – max. files = 200 (if you use an other webcam software you have to delete files via own script)

webcamxp autogallery tags image like this: gallery_1_12345678_123456_0.jpg

.bat file
for 24/7 update i execute a simple .bat file via a daily-task – i also created a .src file for configuring fpt-upload.

  1. mencoder “mf://gallery_1_*.jpg” -mf fps=10 -o timelapse.avi -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=msmpeg4v2:vbitrate=500
  2. mencoder -forceidx -of lavf -oac mp3lame -lameopts abr:br=56 -srate 22050 -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=flv:vbitrate=250:mbd=2:mv0:trell:v4mv:cbp:last_pred=3 -vf scale=360:240 -o timelapse.flv timelapse.avi
  3. ftp -n -s:ftp.src myftp.com

in #1 all image files named gallery_1_*****.jpg will get converted to a avi movie (timelapse.avi) – ftp/500kbs/avi – eg. for local streaming – you can change bitrate / fps
@ #2 avi -> flv transcoding
@#3 flv-file get’s upped to my ftp server via following script ftp.src

user
enter_username_here
enter_password_here
binary
delete timelapse.flv
put timelapse.flv
bye

this script deletes old .flv and uploads the fresh generated one

now you can link your timelapse recording to your blog/homepage… (for example with JW)
